This exhibit of new paintings embodies the idea of rebirth, growth, and renewed existence in personal relationships. In finding inspiration, I had only to look as far as my own family and close friends to see places of connection. I have included a small selection of new pieces on my blog.
October has been a busy month... This month, I was excited to unveil the painting 'Inherit' at a Gala Event put on by the Heritage Property Corporation. The HPC is now the owner of this recently finished piece. The work is 18'x8' and was inspired by an old photograph of my parents and I walking. The painting honors and remembers the past while moving into the future...
This blog post includes two paintings of women that I completed in 2008. Both pieces are currently hanging at the Women's Resource Centre (University of Calgary). The work will be on display until the end of October 2009.
My name is Amy Dryer and I am full-time painter, currently based out of Calgary, AB. My schooling is varied. I attended the Alberta College of Art, the Glasgow School of Art, and finished my Bachelor of Fine Arts at Mount Allison, in Sackville, New Brunswick. Recently, I attended a residency at Emma Lake, Saskatchewan and worked along side artist Kim Dorland.
I paint daily in my Calgary studio. The downtown warehouse space provides the perfect environment for the creation of large and small canvases. I show in galleries and private collections throughout Canada and the United States. In 2008, I was excited to be chosen -- along with six other artists – to be featured in Avenue Magazine’s “Calgary’s Best” issue. I was shown on the cover of the magazine followed by a short article.
My favorite quote is that “the greatest art aspires to the state of music.” Like music, my paintings convey spontaneity, immediacy, movement and quiet reflection. Whether painting women, landscapes, umbrellas, children or butterflies, my brush strokes bring a sense of color, guesture and movement
to the canvas.
